Dead to Rights

August 30, 2002

It’s you against the entire crime world and no one else likes you either…just the way you like it.
Grab your sidearm and badge, gumshoes; Jack Slate is a man out for revenge in Namco’s Dead to Rights. He is outnumbered and out gunned, but by no means outmatched in this “take no prisoners brawl to the finish. Even though the game is tough and deep in story, the ultimate goal to finish the game is kept farther away by sluggish camera mechanics and mindless mini-games. Oh and it’s hard too, so easily frustrated people should leave this one alone entirely. But with a commendable AI and solid gameplay, Dead to Rights is a decent action title if it weren’t for these aggravating issues. Read more

Rock Manager

August 28, 2002

Rock Manager is the kind of game that you see on the shelf at the store and chuckle. Who would buy something this lame? And I have to admit that with the seemingly endless supply of games out there, Rock Manager wouldn’t even get a second glance from me. That really is a shame because the game is actually pretty good. WWE Wrestlmania X8

August 28, 2002

There aren’t many things better then a body slam. Have a hard day at work? Somebody make you mad? What one thing would solve just about any problem? A good old-fashioned body slam of course. But since you can’t just go around and body-slam anybody you want (even though that would be pretty sweet) we have to look to the professionals for that. Now, over the years the debate has raged: Are they athletes? Or are they just actors in a soap opera? Whatever you decide, the fact is that wrestling is truly one of the biggest “sporting” events on TV. And just like the TV shows, the video games are just as popular. Well, this week we take a look at the first WWF errrr I mean WWE title for the Nintendo GameCube. Read more

Gravity Games Bike: Street, Vert, Dirt

August 28, 2002

When I was little I use to ride my little banana seat having bike around the neighborhood. I would pretend I was in a big race and just take off so no one could beat me. And if I felt crazy enough I would run through a hill or down a steep incline. That was until I figured out that falling off a bike hurt! And even today I have all the respect in the world for those crazy cats that ride their bikes in an “extreme way. They don’t listen to the people who say don’t do that your gonna hurt yourself. Nope that’s not even an option because that’s the whole fun of it. But is still blows my mind that people can figure out new and crazier tricks to do to keep the fans happy. Read more

NCAA Football 2003

August 28, 2002

It use to be that this week’s review was nothing more than kind of a sneak peek at the most anticipated game to come out every year (and yes, that’s EA Sports Madden Football.) It would usually show a few of the new features in the upcoming Madden game and how it has changed from the previous version. But as you will read, this week’s game has now stepped up and turned into a true player, a game that has really become one of the elite and will turn all your free time into game time. Read more

Letting kids play violent games

August 26, 2002

Ever since I can remember, kids have been getting into video games by the time they were seven or earlier. Back in the day, the eight bit era, the most violent games were not violent at all. The original NES had pixelated, unrealistic graphics, and no blood-spilling to worry about, so parents didn’t complain about violence. But then, in the early 90s, there was Mortal Kombat. Parents were outraged at the extreme violence. Now, the Mortal Kombat games are nothing compared to the modern first-person shooters like Quake and Unreal, and other incredible games like Grand Theft Auto III. Parents now actually have a legitimate concern in allowing their kids to play games like GTA3. Read more

NCAA GameBreaker 2003

August 21, 2002

I want to be brutally honest for a moment. 989 Sports has really stunk it up the past couple of years. They have failed to produce high quality titles. However, after a year off from most new sports releases, new additions to their development team, and a new outlook, NCAA GameBreaker 2003 arrives for the PlayStation 2. Built off of the GameDay 2003 engine, GameBreaker provides a much more enjoyable experience than past titles in the series but ultimately lacks the polish to “make a run for the National Championship” of college football games. If you thought Mr. Nukem was only cool when he was splatting pigcops from the first person, think again. Read more
