NBA Street Vol.2
April 29, 2003
It’s not everyday that I’m excited to open up a new sports game, especially during the month of april. But all that changed when I opened up my brand-spanking new copy of NBA Street vol.2. I will tell you this right now, after playing this game for countless hours by myself and with friends, this game is by far the best game of it’s type (sorry Street Hoops ). Read more
Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus
April 28, 2003
Microsoft’s first party lineup has had a few exceptional titles. However, more often, the studio seems to continue to put out sub-par efforts. Not only are the vast majority of games coming from the studio average–but Microsoft continues to sink a lot of marketing money into them. While I am not suggesting that Microsoft quit marketing their titles, how about developing and marketing only good titles? Tao Feng First of the Lotus is another great example of a high-profiled first party title from Microsoft that falls flat on its face. While the game has potential, it lacks the overall polish of an AAA title. Read more
K-Hawk: Survival Instinct
April 25, 2003
K-Hawk is a stealth-oriented game similar to Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell, and it drops you into the combat boots of the title character, Kitty Hawk. Ms. Hawk is clearly not your stereotypical soldier, and you’ll probably end up like I did by regarding her as a Lara Croft clone with a dye job. Don’t get me wrong; she is much easier on the eyes than most, but she isn’t particularly well-dressed for a stealth mission. While you wouldn’t think so at first glance, Hawk is a well-trained operative who can rise to the occasion whatever it might be. Read more
Pride FC
April 25, 2003
If you haven’t heard of Pride FC, don’t feel bad. I am not very familiar with it either. However, for those of you who have heard of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Pride FC is very similar to it. However, Pride is based in Japan and features over 25 real fighters from the organization–including: Ken Shamrock, Gary Goodridge, Kazushi Sakuraba, Carlos Newton, Royce Gracie, and Don Frye. While these names may or may not mean anything to you, they guys are some of the best martial art fighters in the world. Read more
Crazy Taxi Catch a Ride
April 23, 2003
When the original Crazy Taxi was released on the Dreamcast, it took the fun of the arcade game and brought it home. While it was a great title it lacked the depth that most console games have. Since the Dreamcast version was released, we have seen versions on practically every single console. Each successive version has done nothing to improve upon the original. But there hasn’t been an attempt to bring the title to the portable market?Ķ until now. Read more
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
April 23, 2003
Metal Gear Solid 2 was one of the biggest releases in 2001. While Konami hasn’t officially announced MGS3 yet, everyone is expecting it to be officially unveiled at E3 2003. In the meantime, Konami has tried to cash in on the popularity of Metal Gear Solid 2. After releasing the Document of Metal Gear Solid–an inside look at the making of the title, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance arrives on the scene. While it contains the original game and several new features, only die-hard fans of the original or those who don’t own the original Metal Gear Solid 2 need to look at this one. Read more
Colin McRae Rally 3
April 23, 2003
Being a casual racing fan, it takes a special title for me to actually sit down with for more than five minutes. Colin McRae Rally 3 is one of these titles that provides fun, excitement, and challenge in over 58 racing stages. You control Colin McRae and his Ford Focus racing team. The only drawback to this is that in the championship mode, you cannot be any other drive. You can also not change the camera angle to be anything but “behind the car. However, these are minor complaints. Read more
Ghost Recon
April 20, 2003
Ghost Recon on the PC was perhaps the best game of 2001, with its realistic battlefield techniques and intriguing story line. PC to console games does not always translate into great games. Most of the time the console version is a big disappointment. Is this game different? Read our review! Read more
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4
April 15, 2003
With extreme sports games making a splash in the console market, Activision has decided to take the biggest step my adding the first online Extreme Sport game entitled “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 was the disputed heavyweight champ for best sports game of 2002 for any console. Although Tony Hawk’s 3 featured an online component it was not as nearly deep as Tony Hawk’s 4 online component. Activision seems to be getting it right time after time. Read more
