September 24, 2003
This morning, I was invited to attend a Nintendo conference call hosted by George Harrison. Here, they announced that beginning tomorrow, 9/25/2003, Nintendo will drop the price of the GameCube from $149.99 to $99.99. This is a signal to everyone that Nintendo is serious about winning this console generation and shows that the GameCube is ready to go mass market. Also, this will make it easy for all consumers to buy an additional console as it reaches this consumer-friendly price point. Without question, at this price the Nintendo GameCube is the best value in the gaming industry. Read more
Exclusively Painful

Exclusive titles are allright in my book. They give the systems certain signature titles that gamers come to expect. It might make me a little sad, but it won’t prompt me to step out in front of a bus or take a nap on some railroad tracks. What does irk me is when the publisher decides to change his/her mind. Sony and 989 Sports made a triumphant return with the release of NFL GameDay 2004. This is the first time in several years where their NFL game has been very competitive with the other titles on the market. Leading the way in online features, 989′s next goal was to continue improving their NCAA GameBreaker franchise. Unfortunately, their attempt came up just a little bit short. Read more
P.N.03

With the last two hardware releases from Nintendo–the Nintendo 64 and the GameCube, there was much optimism surrounding how successful they would turn out to be. With the N64, Nintendo showed the world how to create a 3D game with Mario 64. That game was so far ahead of its time that it still is a shining example of how to create a 3D game today. But the N64 suffered from the lack of Third Party support and the end result was Nintendo coming in last place in the console wars. Read more

Sony puts out a quality product and after spending a day looking at all of their titles coming out between now and the early part of 2004, they put us on a bus and drove us to a huge yacht. And let me tell you, Sony knows how to throw a great party. If you have any doubts about this, just ask all the people begging to get in to the Sony Part at E3 each year. However, nothing prepared me for what would happen to me at this particular party. Read more

After arriving in San Francisco and getting to the hotel where we were staying, Emily and myself ran over to the Thirsty Bear for a welcome party Sony was throwing. When we got there, a lot of folks had already left so we almost decided to leave. However, we ran into Daniel Monk Pelfrey a former writer for us at CVGames. I remember taking a shower this morning and cleaning every part of my body. This is a daily ritual of mine… I don’t leave my house without being clean and I most certainlly don’t travel to my office without looking my best. SCEA Gamers’ Day 2003 Diary Part 1

Last year, I was invited to attend Sony’s Gamers’ Day 2002 conference. While it only lasts one day, we got a lot of information about their upcoming titles and it provided us with a ton of information that wasn’t really discussed at in as much detail. In addition to this, Sony announced Amplitude, the follow-up to the incredible Frequency. You can relive these past experiences in our Featured Articles or Editorial archived sections. This year, Sony has invited both me and our Assistant Editor, Emily, along to the show. The event itself takes place tomorrow, September 16. Read more

So you want to get a job in the video game industry; you have the greatest game idea in the history of mankind, and you just know your idea would revolutionize the industry; but you’ve got just one small problem, you just can’t seem to get your foot in the door. Well, my friend, I once found myself in an identical situation, and I believe I have stumbled upon a solution to your problem. One day while surfing the net, I came across Dave Perry’s website. For those who don’t know, Mr. Perry started Shiney, the company responsible for Earthworm Jim. On his website, I found a link to a school called Full Sail located in Winter Park, Florida. At the time, I had never even heard of the school, though by now I’m sure you’ve seen a few FS ads in gaming magazines. Anyway, I checked out the Full Sail website {www.fullsail.com) and my life changed dramatically at that moment. Read more
