God of War

March 28, 2005

Looking back on the life of the PS2, it’s amazing where it now stands. Not only is it the best selling console this generation, not only does it have the widest selection of great games out of all three consoles, but its still pumping out AAA must-have titles even when it doesn’t need to. This is where God of War, the brainchild of David Jaffe (Game Designer of Twisted Metal 1, Twisted Metal 2, Lead Director of Twisted Metal: Black), comes into the picture. Not only is God of War arguably the best Action/Adventure game on PS2, its one of the best games released in the past 5 years. Read more

Lumines

Tetsuya Mizuguchi is one of the great game developers we have, and has been making some of the best puzzle games for sometime now. His games link music and gameplay to an extent that they almost seem fused together. Just look to REZ and Space Channel five as his past achievement to understand where I’m coming from. Read more

PSP: Lets do Launch!

March 24, 2005

To celebrate the release of the PSP, some larger store chains selling the PSP at 12 AM on 3/24/2005. However, most stores I have seen in the DFW Metroplex area opened a few hours earlier than usual and began selling the PSP at 8 AM today. I visited a local Gamestop store and spoke to the manager about what he thought about the PSP, the amount of pre-orders he had received, and how he thinks the system is going to do against Nintendo DS and future Nintendo handhelds. Yoshi Touch & Go

March 24, 2005

When Balloon Trip appeared at E3 as a “tech demo,” I thought it was pretty fun. It became the full game Yoshi Touch & Go, and as Nintendo started to release information about it, I was starting to get excited for what would be Nintendo’s first original game on the DS. Yoshi Touch & Go features very unique gameplay that really makes use of the Touch Screen. Read more

Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel

March 24, 2005

Shown at the 2004 E3 show in Square Enix’s booth, Fullmetal Alchemist is a title that showed a lot of promise. This Action RPG is based on the Anime series seen on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim and is another title released by Square Enix that seems to be lacking “the magical touch of Square.” Read more

Musashi Samurai Legend

March 24, 2005

Back during the later years of the PlayStation’s life, Square brought us a mysterious new title called Brave Fencer Musashi. The game as fun and was one of the first titles to move Square from their normal franchises. It may have been a few years since we last saw Musashi but he is finally back on the PlayStation 2 in an all new adventure. Read more

Gretzky NHL

March 23, 2005

989 Sports took a year off developing a lot of their titles in order to improve the overall quality of their games. Gretzky NHL was one of these titles and it came out on the PlayStation 2 last year. While the game was an improvement, it failed to deliver the same intensity as the 2K series’ Hockey title. However, with a few extra months of development time and a new platform to play with, 989 is at it again with a new incarnation of Gretzky NHL. Unfortunately, this is not the title that will make you run out and buy a PSP. Read more

One of the original PlayStation titles is making its comeback on the newest Sony platform–the PSP. Wipeout Pure is a futuristic racing title that drew some comparisons to F-Zero when it was first released. However, the title quickly slipped in quality and the franchise hasn’t been very good until now. Read more

Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 Remix

March 23, 2005

One of the most loved franchises at Activision is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. After several successful versions of the game across many different consoles, Activision moved the series in a direction with Tony Hawk’s Underground. This PSP version of Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 Remix is almost identical to the game released last fall on all the big-screened consoles. However, the Developer, Shaba Games, has given players four new levels in this PSP version to help provide some new gaming experiences in the story mode. These include Kyoto, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Santa Cruz. Read more

Spider-Man 2

March 23, 2005

It seems that Spider-Man is popping up all over the place. After two incredible movies and two fun console games based on the movies, the world has once again caught “Spidey Fever.” Spider-Man has popped up on the PS2, Xbox, GameCube, mobile phones, the Game Boy Advance, and even the N-Gage. Being a huge fan of Spider-Man, that is not a bad thing. However, after a sub par outing as a Nintendo DS launch title, I was a bit worried when I heard that Activision was delivering an original Spider-Man 2 title for the PSP. Read more
