Burnout Revenge

May 30, 2005

I would consider myself a Burnout junkie. I really loved the first Burnout because it was like somebody finally made the racing game I had always wanted. Now, I still can’t get enough of Burnout 3: Takedown. However, when Burnout 4 (now officially Burnout Revenge) was first announced, I wasn’t very excited. I was a little worried that EA was trying to force out a quick sequel or something. I should have known better. After learning more about Criterion’s racer and actually getting my hands on it, I’m more excited than ever. It’s one of my most anticipated games this year. Read more

Fatal Frame III (Post-E3 2005)

May 26, 2005

Recently Tecmo announced that the next chapter in the terrifying Fatal Frame series is currently in development and scheduled for a fall 2005 release. If you’ve played the first two games then you know that there’s good reason to be excited. The original game still stands as one of the scariest games ever made making the Silent Hills and Resident Evils look like sunshine and bunnies. Fatal Frame II was a worthy successor and managed to be another intense experience complete with ghostly figures, haunting sound effects and eerie visuals. There hasn’t been a whole lot of information on the new game, Fatal Frame III: The Tormented, but we’re putting our cards on the table here and filling you in on what we’ve learned. Read more

Legend of Zelda (Post-E3 2005)

May 26, 2005

Zelda was a very important game for Nintendo at E3 2005. Frankly, if you took it out of the equation, GameCube’s line-up would appear weak this year. So it was important that Zelda rise above the hoopla over new the systems and impress everyone at the show. Thankfully, it seems to have done just that. Many publications and E3 attendees are calling it Game of the Show or at least one of the best games at the show. Read more

Electroplankton (Post-E3 2005)

May 25, 2005

What’s going in the waters over in Japan–we’re not sure, but we suspect it’s several of the titular little critters themselves. Such is the way these amoeba-like Electroplankton that infect your brain. Each created with just a simple level of polygon counts, but full of character and life. The eponymous little monsters seem to have always been living in your DS–it’s just that they’re only awakened by the purchase of the game cart. Read more

Perfect Dark Zero

May 25, 2005

With the current line-up of games for the Xbox, GameCube, and PlayStation 2, its sometimes difficult to recall the greatness of games that have seen the best of their days, especially when “the best of their days” means about 5 years ago. But I encourage you to take a moment and think back on two of the Nintendo 64′s greatest titles, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Goldeneye easily was a revolution in console first-person shooters. Sure they seem out-dated now compared to Halo 2 or other recent titles, but I remember waiting and waiting for the release of Perfect Dark, and nothing since has immersed me so easily into its world as the first time I was dropped off onto the Datadyne building as Joanna Dark in the middle of the night. Burnout Legends

May 25, 2005

In it’s short lifetime, the PSP handheld has had an amazing track record on the quality of its racing games. However, most of the racing franchises brought to this handheld haven’t had many games released on other consoles in several years. That is soon to change with Burnout Legends. So how does a popular modern racing series stack up on the PSP? Lets take a closer look. Read more

E3 2005 Best of Show (Kaleb)

May 23, 2005

E3 2005 has come and gone. This year the focus of the show was on the upcoming Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3. Companies handed out less promotional items, showed their coolest games behind closed doors, and settled for having practically every game on the show floor be announced prior to E3. While the new hardware was exciting, because of the lack of new and innovative products, it was very difficult for me to pick out five things from E3 that impressed. However, after much thought I can present you with this list: Read more
