E3: Is This Goodbye Forever?
July 31, 2006

I remember my first trip to E3 like it was yesterday. During the second year in Atlanta, I, along with other founders of CVGames, journeyed to E3 to witness the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 battle it out with Metal Gear Solid and Zelda 64 while the Saturn was slowly dying in a corner. Since that time, E3 has had its share of ups and downs. But after witnessing E3 2006, I never in my wildest dream expected to hear news about E3 changing and possibly ceasing to exist entirely. Battle of the Bans
July 27, 2006
It was just earlier this week where we broke the news about Square Enix banning nearly 2000 player accounts from their popular online title Final Fantasy XI and now here we are with even more news of players getting the hatchet. This time we’re talking about Blizzard’s epic World of Warcraft. Evidently the company has banned upwards of 59000 player accounts due to botting; a process where someone runs a program in the background to control their ingame character netting them experience and currency while the actual player may not even be behind the keyboard at all. July 27, 2006
The arcade classic Galaga was officially released on the Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday as part of Microsoft’s weekly XBL Arcade release plan. The release is a straight port of the original game released in 1981 in North America. That means no extra features or online play, but why mess with a classic? Read more
PSP Gets Greatest Hits Lineup
July 25, 2006
It’s pretty common for top-selling games on almost all platforms to eventually be rereleased in a “Greatest Hits” series and sold for budget prices. Sony’s PSP is no different and gamers can expect to see some first party Sony titles selling for a mere twenty bucks when they visit any local game retailer. Currently, there are five titles available including Twisted Metal: Head On and Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee. Read more
THQ Pwns Paradigm
July 25, 2006
Paradigm Entertainment, responsible for games based on The Terminator and Mission Impossible licenses are now part of THQ’s big, happy family. The acquisition is now complete and the developer will begin working on a sequel to the PlayStation 2′s cult hit Stuntman. The new game is currently set for release sometime in 2007 and THQ expects to reveal details on the game later this year. With this being the fourth studio to join the THQ collection this year, it looks as though the company has secured itself a strong position in the industry and hopefully we can expect more great games to follow.
ERROR: Cannot Connect To Server
July 25, 2006
Approximately 2000 Final Fantasy XI players caught the bad end of Square Enix’s hit stick right in the gut recently as the company announced another massive ban/suspension on player accounts. The accounts affected by this were reportedly confirmed to have been using illegal 3rd party software with FFXI which the developers say can ruin the game’s economy and thus hurt the enjoyment that normal players may otherwise derive from the game. Have you noticed more spam leaking through your spam filters lately? I certainly have. Have the spammers come up with a new break-through in their tactics? Not really. Instead of sending out text emails, the spam messages are images created with the text in them. Can spam filters fight them based on content? Nope. Read more
Cars
July 23, 2006
Despite all the films to be released this summer year, Cars has been the fan favorite. Tying in with the movie, THQ has put out a Game Boy Advance version. However, for everything that THQ did right with Cars for the PS2, Xbox, PC, and GameCube, they did the exact opposite in Cars for the Game Boy Advance. That isn’t to say Cars is a terrible game… I just was left wanting more. Read more
Cars
July 23, 2006
One of the biggest films of the Summer 2006 season in Hollywood is Disney Pixar’s Cars. The movie featured a world of living, breathing cars and a complete lack of all humans. THQ obtained the license for the videogames based on the film and they have done a remarkable job in creating the best game version of a Pixar film. Utilizing the resources of Rainbow Studios, Cars is a game that fans of the film will want to give a look. However, despite a very good attempt, all is not perfect in Cars. Read more
