Valve Gives Steamworks to Developers

To help make PC games have a unified service that allows players to connect to each other–much like what Xbox Live and PlayStation Network provides on consoles–Valve has revealed plans to give a suite a development tools to Developers and Publishers for free. The tools will be known as Steamworks and are the same tools used for Half-Life 2 and The Orange Box by Valve. Read more

Gamers who are looking for an easy way to make calls on their PSP will be pleased to learn that Sony has officially launched Skype for the PSP-2000 model (also known as the PSP Slim) with a brand new 3.90 firmware that Sony has released today. PSP-2000 owners who upgrade will be able to make and receive calls on the Skype Network or for a small fee, be able to call landlines. Read more

Things on Wheels Coming to XBLA

SouthPeak Games has announced that they will deliver Things on Wheels (ToW) on both Windows and Xbox Live Arcade. ToW is an arcade racing title that puts players in control of radio controlled cars though a huge Florida Art Deco house. The gameplay will feature tracks made out of everyday household items. PopCap Games, the leading developer and publisher of casual video games, has announced that it has hired Martin Gannholm, a 20-year technology industry veteran, to the newly-created position of Vice President of Engineering. Gannholm comes to PopCap after four years as a senior member of Microsoft Corporation’s business software division, most recently as Architect and Group Program Manager of Microsoft Office Live.
