Madden 2006

October 27, 2005

I must admit, this year I wasn’t too excited about playing this year’s installment of madden. I was thinking it was going to be the same game with a new roster and a few new animations. I must admit after actually sitting down with the game for a few weeks, I’m very impressed.

First off let’s start off with some of the new features. This year you have the ability to individually assign coverages to each defensive player. That means if you want to play a complete zone, yet you want one of your linebackers to manually cover the running back, you can do it. You can also individually shade a receiver. That means you can tell your db to cover either the inside or outside shoulder of the wide receiver. Another new feature in the game is the hit stick. If you were like me, last year you were sick and tired of always getting hit sticked online. This year you can dish it back. Last but not least is the new vision cone passing system. Not many people like it but I love it. This makes the game that much more of a simulation. Now you actually have to look at the receiver you’re going to throw it to.

Of course I’m gonna talk about the graphics and control. EA spent a lot of time on adding new animations and sprucing up the graphics for its latest iteration. This year you can actually tell a defensive lineman from a wide receiver. The controls of this game are much smoother than last year’s version. I haven’t noticed as much slow down than I have with previous versions of the game. This is as smooth as silk as you’re gonna get.

So as you can see, I’m really impressed with this years game. I definitely recommend you go out and buy this version. If it’s the last version for the current generation of consoles I’m not sure. But it’s definitely the best version yet.
