E3 2012 Best of Show Awards 1 of 3

Kaleb Rutherford
06/07/12
The Billy Award is the most prestigious award we hand out at CVG. Billy Rutherford, the President and Founder of our parent company, Rutherford & Associates, passed away in July 2007 on the Eve of E3. Our award is given to games, gadgets, and items that are of the highest quality and deserving of his memory. Part 1 of our E3 2012 Awards honors five game we found as the Best of the Show this year. Congratulations to the winners of all our Awards!
Beyond: Two Souls

When I heard that Sony was going to reveal a new IP at E3 2012, I didn't realize how amazing it would look. From the minds of Quantic Dream and David Cage, the same team that brought you Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls looks to redefine how to use the PlayStation 3 to tell an interactive story. Staring the talented Ellen Page as Jody Holmes, Beyond: Two Souls will deliver an engrossing story over fifteen years of Jody's life and answer the question what lies after our life on this earth.

Borderlands 2

How do you follow-up a sequel to a sleeper hit? If you are Gearbox Software, you completely rework the game engine and pump in even more cel-shaded visuals, add an INSANE amount of weapons and loot, litter the ground with cash from fallen enemies, and make the multiplayer gameplay more enjoyable. Borderlands 2 plays like a shooter that has already won multiple Game of the Year awards. When it releases, we expect that to be true.

Dark Souls

Difficult, frustrating, and incredibly rewarding. This sums up Dark Souls--the hit console game brought to you by FROM Software. They had no plans to ever release DLC or a PC port of the title so the fans stepped in and screamed. Then they screamed louder, and louder, and filled out petition after petition to bring this game to the PC. FROM Software gave in and decided to give PC owners a version of Dark Souls with new content that will come to the console for $14.99 later this year. Dark Souls is a different kind of RPG for the PC that will hopefully prove, once and for all, that all games belong on the PC platform.

Dishonored

Dishonored is a non-stop thrill ride and we had the chance to find out why in a live demo of the title shown behind closed doors during E3 2012. As the second part of the Bethesda presentation, Dishonored showed us stealth, assassinations, all out action, magical skills, and more over our time with the title. The best part is, unlike most other titles, this one will be in your hands this year and easily makes our list as one of the best titles of E3 2012!

Halo 4

343 fills the shows of Bungie in creating a followup to one of the greatest franchises in videogame history. They attempt this great feat by bringing back fan favorite weapons, supply episodic multiplaeyr content, and improve on the graphics by squeezing out every ounce of power and juice the Xbox 360 has left in its 7 year old box. The result is gaming magic this holiday season.
