I must admit, this year I wasn't too excited about playing this year's installment of madden. I was thinking it was going to be the same game with a new roster and a few new animations. I must admit after actually sitting down with the game for a few weeks, I'm very impressed.

Everybody knows that I am just not much of a college football fan on the consoles.
I will admit that I was, once again, not very excited about playing this year's installment of NCAA 06. I was thinking it was going to be the same game with a new roster and a few new animations. However, I must admit after actually sitting down with the game for a few weeks, I am very impressed. Something that I never thought would be possible.

After experiencing an NHL lockout for an entire season, I can safely say that I've encountered my worst nightmare as a hockey fan. That one year lost is just one more chance the Leafs could have used (and badly needed) to be Stanley Cup champs for the first time since '67, but I digress. It's now important to focus on the upcoming NHL season, and where there is hockey there are videogames, specifically, NHL 2K6.

What happens when you take one of the summer's most hyped movies, use an improved X-Men Legends game engine, and make the game follow the movie's storyline? Activision's Fantastic 4 is the end result. Unfortunately there are just entirely too many issues to warrant the word "Fantastic" being in the title.

I still remember it like it was yesterday. Years ago during the last days of the Nintendo 64, Nintendo and Rare showcased Conker's Bad Fur Day in their booth at E3. Not only was the game vulgar and completely out of place on the "kid friendly" Nintendo 64, Nintendo actually served Alcohol in their booth to those who were playing Conker. As a member of the press, I am accustomed to being offered free alcohol at certain events and parties. However, Nintendo was allowing anyone with ID to get alcohol for free. I still have the promotional Conker mug they gave me today. Later that year I went on to call the game a disgrace to both Nintendo and Rare and awarded the title an F score. Despite criticisms from readers and some staff at CVGames, we awarded Conker's Bad Fur Day the dishonorable Worst Game of the Year award. Now fast forward to 2005 and the game has been redone for the Xbox. Was I right in my judgments of the title back on the N64?

Let's get one thing straight here. I'm a gamer. My idea of an exciting Saturday night is a play-through of Doom on Nightmare skill level. And that's why I don't know a thing about illegal street racing; pretty much my entire mental landscape about it comes from movies and the occasional "Low Rider" magazine that my roommate lends me. In my mind, street racing consists of beautiful women in bikini tops, twenty bottles of "NOZ" stacked out like Gatorade cups at a marathon, the thunderous thuds of over-watted woofers, and the garish colors of the ten thousand LED lights attached to every conceivable surface of an automobile. (And, inexplicably, Vin Diesel sternly presiding over the entire affair.) And you know what? With the exception of Mr. Diesel, Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition pretty much recreates my mental picture of street racing... and then some.

Rare is a developer I have always been fond of. Throughout the years, they have made some of the best Nintendo games going all the way back to Battletoads on the NES. I was shocked when Microsoft bought out Rare and Nintendo let them depart so quickly. Sure the developer could be a little slow releasing titles but they were always good, right? Their first Xbox title was Grabbed by the Ghoulies and it was not a favorite among reviewers. I personally enjoyed the title but I am in the minority. Since then, Rare has not released another game.
Well talk about money makers, when it comes to Nintendo's platforms the Mario Kart game line has been one of the best. Super Mario Kart for the SNES was the first game to bring, us, at the time...
