Audition

Developer: T3 Entertainment | Publisher: Nexon America
Players: 1+ Player Game | Release Date: 04/02/07 | Genre: Music

Developed by T3 Entertainment and originally published in Korea by Yedang Online, Audition is a multiplayer online casual game that uses the Virtual Asset Sales (VAS) model rather than the traditional retail method. This means the game is free to play, but various in-game items can be purchased with a credit card. Due to its success in Korea, Audition has been localised for several countries (Japan, Philippines, and South East Asia to name a few) from various publishers, and thanks to Nexon America, North America will get to experience this rhythm dance game designed for the online environment (that's multiplayer for those of you who were wondering).

Battlefield 2142

Developer: EA DICE | Publisher: Electronic Arts
Players: 1+ Player Game | Release Date: 10/17/06 | Genre: FPS

battlefield.jpgThe future of warfare is here, and it is not Battlefield 2142. There’s plenty of fun to be had with the multiplayer online with the new toys we’re given to play with. Unfortunately, there is nothing really new on offer that can’t be found in other games and if you don’t plan on spending a lot of time online playing then this isn’t really worth the effort in the single player portion.

Just Cause

Developer: Avalanche Studios | Publisher: Eidos Interactive
Players: 1 Player Game | Release Date: 09/27/06 | Genre: Action

justcause2.jpgJust Cause takes place in a fictional Caribbean country, where you personally hand the country over to the rebels city by city. I'm not too sure what the story is, I'm guessing somebody needs to be taken out of power for some reason, and there are other people that need to be helped. I thought the cutscenes would help with this, but they don't. First you go in to take over a country, then you're allying with a druglord to take out another druglord for some reason. It's explained, but none of it makes sense, so you do it and we can hope there are better things to come.

Prey

Developer: Venom Games | Publisher: 2K Games
Players: 1+ Player Game | Release Date: 07/11/06 | Genre: FPS

prey2.jpgMost likely by now you’ve heard that Prey has been in development for 10 years. What you may not know is that development has halted a couple of times during that period, with developers switching in the process. The original core game (repelling an alien hoard) isn’t drastically different from the original vision, as are some of the game mechanics, but it should be noted that Prey as released in 2006 is not the same game that was in development when first announced.

darknessrising.jpgDarkness has risen across the land in Dark Age of Camelot in the form of Darkness Rising, the newest expansion for the popular MMORPG. The darkness is in the form of evil forces that threaten to rise up against the rightful rulers of each realm, and it also signifies the major overhaul that has taken place in the contested dungeon, Darkness Falls. We reported a preview of the expansion earlier, so let’s see how things have come together.

Sin Episodes: Emergence

Developer: Ritual Entertainment | Publisher: Electronic Arts
Players: 1+ Player Game | Release Date: 05/09/06 | Genre: FPS

sin1.jpgJohn Blade isn’t exactly what you’d call a household name in the world of video games, but the hero of Ritual Entertainment’s Sin series is carving out a nice niche for himself with the newest Ritual title Sin Episodes: Emergence. This game is everything a shooter fan could ask for delivering huge explosions, intense action and boss fights that return the genre to its roots. This is definitely not a game for the kiddies; expect plenty of cursing, nearly naked girls and loads of bodily dismemberment and beheadings. Now switch that safety off and get your trigger finger at the ready because we’re going in-depth with this engaging new title.

Call of Duty 2

Developer: Infinity Ward | Publisher: Activision
Players: 1+ Player Game | Release Date: 11/17/05 | Genre: FPS

Call of Duty is arguably the best World War 2 title that has ever been developed and released. The popularity of this shooter franchise has been seen on both consoles and the PC. However, it is on the PC where this First Person Shooter really shines. With the release of Call of Duty 2, Developer Infinity Ward sought to include even more realistic gameplay in an epic storyline that will leave you breathless until the end.

Quake 4

Developer: Raven Software | Publisher: Activision
Players: 1+ Player Game | Release Date: 10/18/05 | Genre: FPS

Quake 4 is the triumphant return of the classic id Software series to the PC (and later this year on Xbox 360). The Quake franchise was born out of id's attempt at building a brand new franchise along with a great game engine. Using the technology from Quake titles sped up the development times for several other companies. For some unknown reason though this series has been sitting on the backburner. Now that it has returned, instead of using its own engine, Quake 4 uses the technology from Doom 3. And instead of id developing the title internally, they have passed the development over to the capable hands of Raven Software. The results are stunning.

EverQuest 2

Developer: SOE | Publisher: Sony Online Entertainment
Players: 1+ Player Game | Release Date: 11/08/04 | Genre: MMO

If you poll 100 people and ask them to name a MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing game), the name EverQuest will come up more than once. While EQ was not the first game of this type, arguably it took the genre to a whole new level. When people actually lose their job because they would rather stay home and play a game, you know someone is doing something right or wrong if you were the dude losing his job. With the success of EQ, there was never any doubt that there would be a sequel. Now, we have EverQuest 2 which takes all the things that the developers learned from the original game and tries driving the gaming experience to the next level.

Hola amigos! Est?° bien? Bueno, y bienvenidos Tropico! Tropico, a new game from Pop Top software is, when you get right down to itm a traditional city-building sim, in the same vein as Caesar, but the action is stylishly displayed in a political shell and a Carribean flavor.
