50 Cent: Bulletproof (Pre-E3 2006)

Developer: Genuine Games | Publisher: VU Games
Players: 1 Player Game | Genre: Action

Release Date: 11/17/05

50_1.jpgThe second edition in 50 Cent’s game series is a spin off of the first PS2 game for the PSP. Similar in most respects to the original, the PSP version sports a brand new style of play: action from a top down perspective. The result is a completely different feeling game, seeming much more like an easy to manage beat ‘em up and much less like its clumsier younger cousin for the PS2.

Combat follows with this new beat ‘em up style, and as would be expected is intense, quick, and all over the place. You can take down your enemies with the usual assortment of urban weapons, from machine guns to old boards. 50 cent also sports the showboating moves of a true street thug, and the game includes up close scenes of his badassery in action.

The real strength of the game, though, especially for fans of the rap celebrity, is the myriad of music tracks, videos, clothes, and even a movie that can be purchased in the game at 50 cent’s ‘hood’. Which means that Fiddy’s biggest fans can take him out dressed in the Fall 2006 lineup of G-unit clothing, busting up his enemies while listening to any of the 15 exclusive music tracks in the game, or 145 of the others. And afterwards, you can take a break by watching any of the 16 music videos that are unlockable within the game. In addition to these bonuses there are 16 different characters to choose from, such as Eminem or Dr. Dre.

Hopefuls for the first of the series may have been disappointed, but keep a look out: if the problems from the original are addressed, the PSP version may turn out much better than expected.
