M3: My Morning Musings - QuakeCon 2013 Dated, More PS4, Uncharted F2P, & More
QuakeCon 2013 dates have been announced for August 1 through 4 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas. Like in years past, QuakeCon will be open to the public free of charge.
You can make reservations at the hotel by calling 1-800-Hiltons or 1-800-445-8667 or by going online to https://resweb.passkey.com/Resweb.do?mode=welcome_gi_new&groupID=19193436. Special room rate of $159 per night when you reference QuakeCon 2013!
Besides possible getting some DOOM 4 news, the biggest reason to head over to QuakeCon is the BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) LAN Party. This is the 18th straight year QuakeCon will host the largest LAN party in the country.
Bethesda Softworks will also be showing some of their upcoming game titles to the public for the first time and will offer attendees the chance to go hands on with some of their anticipated games. Plus the world's leading technology companies will be on site demonstrating their latest hardware and software developments. QuakeCon also features daily festivities including contests, entertainment, panel discussions, announcements, parties and more!
We will report again when QuakeCon begins registering for BYOC seats. Last year was the first time, in the history of the event, that users needed to pay in order to ensure access to the BYOC.

On the subject of Sony, they have spoken more about the upcoming PlayStation 4. They continue to release statements like: "We are going to do the right thing with the secondhand market." This seems to be indirectly attacking what Microsoft is doing with the next Xbox. If the gamers I have spoken to are any indication, Microsoft is committing console suicide if they proceed with blocking used games and forcing players to "always be connected to the Internet" to play Xbox games.
Sony also is speaking about their own games. Sony's own Michael Denny has said:
"With PlayStation 4 what's exciting is we can see the strength in depth of titles come through -- not just in first party but third party, and I really believe PlayStation 4 will have the strongest launch line-up we've ever had. I think there are big genres that we want to cover but we want to innovate within them and move them on.
This was the first announcement, it was an early announcement, and as I said this was really to set the agenda and to get it clear to everybody what those design pillars were for PlayStation 4, what the ethos is behind PS4, who it's aimed at and getting the game development community on board."
God of War: Ascension is getting a single player demo ahead of the March 12 release of the PlayStation 3 title. You will be able to download it, via PSN, when they update the store later today. Here is a trailer of the demo:
Also coming to the PSN Store later today is Zen Pinball 2's Star Wars Pinball update! The PS3 and PS Vita cross-buy update for Zen Pinball will allow you to purchase the new pack for $9.99 and play on both platforms.
The first set of tables includes Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. May the force be with you!
Instead of putting resources into Aliens, Gearbox has been hard at work on the sixth playable character for Borderlands 2. When asked about it, Randy Pitchford responded, via Twitter: "Almost certainly yes. We're working on it."
They are also still planning on increasing the level cap. However, they are trying to get as far away from talking about Aliens as possible. With how poor the game is, can't say I blame them.
Atlus announced today that their next RPG, Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan, is now available at retail and digital download for the Nintendo 3DS eShop!
Etrian Odyssey IV delivers a wealth of content with more than 30 hours of RPG action, enhanced graphics and 3D effects, more immersive 3D dungeons, and upgradeable skyships that let players travel and battle among the clouds.
Much like the QR codes distributed for the game's demo, ATLUS is providing additional QR Codes for the retail version of the game that will allow users to unlock more in-game gift items and quests. These QR codes will appear in various ATLUS channels, including Face Book and Twitter pages, through the launch window and beyond.
"Etrian Odyssey IV is gaming's best tribute to retro RPGs," said Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, ATLUS. "While this game is the epitome of old-school RPG, we're excited to add new elements to truly leverage the 3DS including 3D dungeons, StreetPass functionality, and ability to read QR codes for special quests and items."
We can't wait to review this title for you!

The Wii is getting shrunk for another market. After the smaller $99 Wii was released in Canada late last year, the UK is getting the new Wii Mini on March 22. Pricing has not been revealed yet and the new Wii Mini still lacks Online and GameCube support.
Nintendo, will, however, add to Nintendo Selects in the UK region with Mario Party 8, Wii Sports Resort, Mario Power Tennis, and Super Paper Mario. This adds to the other list of titles: Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, and Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City.
Will the US see this new pint-sized Wii? And Nintendo sure doesn't want anyone going online with their Wii consoles. Why remove online functionality from a console?
