Ouya Breaks Kickstarter Records

warning: substr() expects parameter 3 to be long, string given in /home/cvgarut3/public_html/sites/all/modules/link/link.inc on line 111.

The video game industry has been a relatively private club for decades now. Before the advent of Xbox Live Arcade and the smartphone industry, making your own homebrew video games were relegated to low budget PC and flash titles. With the advent of the Ouya Video Game Console, all that is about to change. The goal of Ouya is to build a console that can easily be hacked and modified to make the experience as unique as its owner.

The crew behind the Ouya have a simple goal in mind. They are trying to bring back all of the attention that tablets and smartphones are receiving from developers to the console world. With the belief that your best gaming experience happens in the living room, on the big screen. The new console will be powered by Android 4.0, feature an 8gb hard drive, 1gb of memory and a Tegra 3 quad-core processor. The Ouya will connect to your TV via HDMI with support for 1080p HD. Other ports include Bluetooth 4.0, as well as Bluetooth b/g/n support. Another great feature is the controller. While having the usual controller features, it will also have a small touch screen. Its not going to be all about the small names however. Minecraft has already been confirmed, with more titles coming soon.

As of 12:00 am Ouya has already raised three times their initial goal on Kickstarter.com, a site dedicated to helping would be investors connect to aspiring inventors. Ouya stated that if they were able to raise $950,000 then their console would see the light of day. This was accomplished in eight hours. The project is set to be funded on 9, August 2012 at 1:00 am EDT.

As of going to press there is no time frame for release, but considering the support that has already been shown, the Ouya could be here before you know it. Stay tuned to CVG for more updates on the Ouya.
