Darksiders II

Developer: Vigil Games | Publisher: THQ
Players: 1 Player Game | Genre: Action
Release Date: TBA 2012

The sequel to Darksiders is well underway and more was shown off from the upcoming title at Comicon 2012. Since the original title was released, Vigil Games has a much clearer direction on where they want to take the sequel and the franchise. They have admitted that the direction of the first title wasn't really clear until they got towards the end of the development cycle. Usually this indicates major issues but for some reason it all clicked in the original Darksiders.

One of the most requested features has been some type of cooperative play. Despite the love of co-op by Vigil Games, the option just won't be available for Darksiders II. They hope it can be included in a future Darksiders title but the budget and how well the game sells will determine this.

Darksiders II has the player controlling another of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Death. Death will be voiced by Michael Wincott of The Crow film and is on a quest to save your fellow Horseman, War. Death will play much different than War. You will be extremely agile and able to climb the terrain to change up the gameplay. In addition to the playstyle, Darksiders II will provide players with more loot and a greater RPG feel than the first title. This will be seen in the heavy customizations you can make to your character and class types.

Vigil Games is aware that with a ton of loot and classtypes, there will need to be a balance in the world. They are taking the task of ensuring the game feels fair and balanced no matter what items you have equipped or skills you choose to play with. This is also something that they wished to do with the first title but simply did not have the available resources to do it well.

Players will be able to look forward to a much greater variety in the environment when the title arrives in 2012. Instead of just Urban areas, you will find a variety of different locations to keep the game world fresh and exciting. One such area shown is the Demon Underworld. But don't expect the formula to stray to far from the original. Though there are some enhancements, that we mentioned above, Darksiders II is still inspired by The Legend of Zelda in terms of gameplay.

Though we will have to wait quite a bit longer to get our hands on a final copy of Darksiders II, I encourage users to take a look at the original Darksiders on PC, PlayStation 3, or Xbox 360.  The original was rated M for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, and Suggestive Themes. Though the Rating for the new title will be pending for quite some time, we expect it to be every bit as Mature rated as the original. So the younger players will need to steer clear.

Vigil Games is working hard to use the rest of the development time to polish up their sequel and ensure the franchise continues to gain in popularity amongst the target audience.
