Miami Vice: The Game (E3 2006)

Developer: Rebellion | Publisher: VU Games
Players: 1 Player Game | Genre: Action
Release Date: 07/18/06

Knowing about the upcoming movie, it’s pretty obvious to expect an accompanying game. Miami Vice: The Game is primarily a 3rd-person shooting game. One of the first things you’ll notice is how nice it looks on the PSP. The environments and characters are nicely detailed, and the animations look great too.

While you’ll be doing a lot of shooting, there will be some tactics involved as you’ll need to make smart use of cover in order to survive. You’ll even be able to interact with the environment, moving objects to an optimal position in order to provide additional cover. Enemy AI seems pretty good so far. The thugs will get behind cover when you start shooting and they’ll try to work together.

Miami Vice: The Game will also feature several min-games. Boat chases will have you shooting at enemies while they speed away, or you could be hacking flash ROMS to get the scoop on drug dealers. Those are just a couple examples.

The game will award you with bonus points for taking greater risks and showing greater skill. For instance, if you’re more accurate with your shots, or let’s say you finish entire level with pistols, never using a machine gun, you’ll be awarded bonuses. Presumably, the bonus points can be used to unlock things such as extra weapons, but we won’t know for sure until we play more of the game.

Miami Vice: The Game seems to be coming along well. With both single player and co-op play it should provide PSP gamers with enough features to satisfy their on-the-go desires for shooting drug dealers and their henchmen.
