PaRappa the Rapper

Developer: Epics | Publisher: SCEA
Players: 1 Player Game | Genre: Music
Release Date: 07/17/07

Kick Punch, it's all in the mind! These famous words started a revolution on the PlayStation and continue to be one of the most beloved Rhythm-based game experiences ever made. Sony is taking all the fun and excitement of the original, shrinking it down, and delivering an experience all PSP owners will want to play.

At the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, only one level was playable. The infamous Chop Chop Master Onion level where you learn to kick and punch for the first time. You gotta believe!!!

The demo shown is identical to the original but with a few tweaks. Sony is cleaning up any rough edges on the original characters and making sure they are all smooth and missing the jaggies that was there in the original PSone title. Also, in order to make the game fit into the 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, Sony is also tweaking the elements on the screen to correctly fit on the PSP.

In addition to the fixing any defects to the visuals, Sony is also redoing the music to be at a higher bitrate. This will ensure that there are no muffled sounds or music.

While we are not sure of any details, Sony is promising a four player multiplayer mode. This mode was absent from TGS 06 and Sony wasn't talking about how they were going to incorporate this into the final product. Hopefully this will be a great new addition to the game.

PaRappa the Rapper should be a fun game that PSP owners will enjoy. Sony is currently targeting December, 2006 for a Japanese release. However, no release date outside of Japan is known right now. Hopefully the game isn't too far out for those outside of Japan. I can't wait to see more of PaRappa the Rapper PSP.
