In one of the happiest moments of E3 2009, Telltale Games fulfilled their promise to excite their fans with the announcement that they will be releasing all-new episodic adventures of Guybrush Threepwood, Elaine Marley, and LeChuck in Tales of Monkey Island. For those of you who are completely unaware, Monkey Island is one of the most beloved PC Adventure Games of all time. The series has been long forgotten by LucasArts and the fans of the franchise all screamed for joy at the word of this announcement early on during E3 2009.
While we don't have a lot of details, here is what we know. Telltale Games will be developing the Tales of Monkey Island episodic titles for LucasArts. They will be given the same tender care that all titles from Telltale receive with the creative staff behind the Sam & Max episodic titles bringing their wit and charm to the world of Monkey Island. The game world appears to be taking a visual approach similar to the later 3D titles in the franchise.
We have also been given a few details about the story. The evil LeChuck has cursed Guybrush Threepwood and this makes one his hands glow and act without any way for Threepwood to stop it. To make matters worse, Elaine Marley has been kidnapped and Threepwood gets washed up on an island he has never been to before. You must stop this curse, get off the island, save Elaine, and stop LeChuck. Giant monkey heads and oversized Q-Tips are optional.
There is not an exact release date but Telltale Games is promising we should see the title sometime this summer. Plans currently are to release Tales of Monkey Island on both the PC and the Wii. There will be 5 monthly episodes that will be closely tied together and players who pre-order the title will even receive a special edition DVD version of the title, on the PC, when the completely 5 month season concludes.
Expect all the humor and fun of Monkey Island in a new package. If successful, we can only hope that LucasArts will continue to allow Telltale Games to dip into their extensive catalog of Adventure Games and give us several more seasons of Monkey Island. We will bring you new information on Tales of Monkey Island as we learn more.

This is an adventure game in which players follow the exploits of the pirate Guybrush Threepwood as he explores Flotsam Island and attempts to rescue his wife. The majority of gameplay involves interacting with pirates, exploring ships and islands, and following the irreverent storyline. Players complete a series of quests that are often accompanied by humorous antics and dialogue: the central character plants a 'cartoony' bomb in a pair of underwear; a man says he has 'gluteal acne'; a man accidentally punches himself and others; a character is accused of having 'broken wind.' One quest involves meeting a 'Voodoo Lady' who has exaggerated-sized, jiggling breasts and who talks about her former boyfriend (e.g., 'He fell in love with my voodoo charms and my supple-'). There are bottles labeled 'grog' throughout a pirate ship, and grog is also referenced in conversation (e.g., '…light grog: it's just like real grog except without the taste, calories, or debilitating blackouts'). The dialogue also contains the French expletive 'sacre merde ' and the expression 'p.o'd.'Tags:
