E3 2008: Lego Batman
By Kaleb Rutherford | 07/21/08

Those crazy guys at Traveler's Tales are at it again.  After spending several games in the Star Wars universe and then a game with Indiana Jones, it is time for Batman to get some Lego Love.  We spent some time at the Warner Bros Suite at E3 2008 and sat down for a hands on demo of the upcoming Lego Batman game.  The result was a fun title that continues to improve upon the popular formula.

E3 2008: Legendary
By Ryan Schaefer | 07/21/08

There are a lot of big games coming out for the Xbox 360 in the next few months. So many in fact, that we may accidentally overlook a few gems here and there. I’m here to make sure that doesn’t happen with Spark Unlimited’s upcoming first person shooter Legendary. This game is looking fantastic and certainly deserves more time in the spotlight than it has been getting from the media. In today’s crowded first person shooter market, it is becoming increasingly difficult to put out an FPS game that truly stands out. However, the developers at Spark have found a way to do just that; in Legendary you will find yourself battling not against aliens or science projects gone awry, but against mythical beasts such as minotaurs, griffins and werewolves just to name a few. Yes, I said werewolves. I know, totally awesome, right? Right!

E3 2008: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe
By Kaleb Rutherford | 07/21/08

Midway has teamed up with DC Comics to bring a merging of two very different worlds.  This fall, players on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 will get to take their favorite Mortal Kombat characters and fight to the death, with some of the biggest characters in the DC Comics universe.  As strange as the concept sounds, I had a lot of fun with this title at E3 2008.  Lets take a closer look at Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

E3 2008: inFamous
By Kaleb Rutherford | 07/19/08
Taking a vast departure from their previous titles, Brian Fleming, co-founder of Sucker Punch, sat us down for a look into the world of their upcoming title inFamous. As they prepare to release their fourth title for Sony in Spring of 09, how exactly did a team who created kid friendly, cel-shaded platformers about a squirrel and other furry friends go about creating a dark world where a new super hero is born before your eyes? That is part of what makes inFamous so unique.

E3 2008: Puzzle Quest Galactrix
By Kaleb Rutherford | 07/19/08

D3 was at E3 and had several PC's running the latest build of the upcoming puzzle title Puzzle Quest: Galactrix.  While it would have been possible for Developer Infinite Interactive to take the original Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords and just add a science fiction theme to it for Galactrix--the Developer has gone the extra mile, listened to fan feedback, and created an entire new experience.

E3 2008: Mega Man 9
By Kaleb Rutherford | 07/19/08
It has been a long time since we last saw a real Mega Man game. In fact, it has been far too long in my opinion. To remedy this, Mega Man is currently in development for the Nintendo Wii. However, this version of Mega Man does not use 3d graphics and it isn't doing anything special with the Wiimote. Instead, the game is being developed as a Wiiware title and utilizes the same 8 bit engine as the original NES did. This is Mega Man 9.

Too Human: Demo Impressions
By Ryan Schaefer | 07/16/08
Like so many Xbox 360 owners out there, we here at CVG were delighted to hear about the Too Human demo on Xbox LIVE this Monday. A game that was initially slated for release on the Nintendo 64...or was it the PlayStation? Well, no matter, the point is that the game is just about here and we have taken our final look at the game via the same demo that you have likely tried yourself.

E3 2008: God of War 3 First Look
By Kaleb Rutherford | 07/15/08
As expected, Sony showed a very quick glimpse of God of War 3 for the PlayStation 3 during its press conference. And, what would seem like the perfect announcement to end a somewhat lackluster press conference, Sony tipped their hand by showing a picture of Kratos as a PS3 character early in the show and trailer was shown without any buildup or surprise. It was more of a “Here is a quick look at God of War 3” rather than a “Just wait until you see what we have for you” kind of announcement.

Soul Calibur 4
By Ryan Schaefer | 07/15/08

Namco Bandai’s popular fighting series is set to make its debut on current generation hardware at the end of this month. With the release getting so close, we figured it was time to take an in-depth look at the game and show you just why this entry in the series promises to be another blockbuster.

Pre-E3 2008 Champions Online
By Kaleb Rutherford | 07/14/08

2K Games and Cryptic Studios are getting ready to send players, on both the Xbox 360 and PC, into the wild world of Massively Multiplayer Online games with the new cross platform title Champions Online.  For those of you not familiar with Cryptic Studios--they are the development house that delivered the hit PC City of Heroes and City of Villains.  With Champions Online, players on both platforms will be able to participate in all of the fun and excitement that comes with controlling a Super Hero.  Although it would make sense for Cryptic Studios to port over City of Heroes and City of Villains, they sold the rights to the franchise to NCSoft.  Despite that, with Champions Online, we are getting a seasoned MMO development  house working on a real console MMO.  And from what has been shown, it looks like it may be a hit.

Pre-E3 2008 Gears of War II
By Kaleb Rutherford | 07/11/08

With the release of the original Gears of War, Epic Games and Microsoft both ushered in the first title to completely erase Halo 2 from the minds of Xbox owners.  Although the original Gears of War was popular, the game had a few shortcomings and fans begged for more.  Fear not GoW faithful, your cries have been heard from Microsoft and Epic.  Coming later this year is a much improved Gears of War 2.

Pre-E3 2008 PixelJunk Eden
By Kaleb Rutherford | 07/10/08
We have had some time with the latest title in the PixelJunk series--PIxelJunk Eden--and I must say that I am very impressed. PJE is completely different than anything I have ever seen before and is a breath of fresh air for downloadable content. You probably have read my praise for titles in the PIxelJunk series before--most recently with the incredibly simple, but deep PixelJunk Monsters. I admit that I have sent e-mails to Developer Q-Games begging that they give us PixelJunk Monsters 2. However, they have consistently said that PJM2 may come later but they have other ideas for games they want to do first. After spending time with PixelJunk Eden, I am now convinced that Q-Games can take their time in developing the titles they have in mind and put off PixelJunk Monsters 2 to a later date.

Pre-E3 2008 Killzone 2
By Kaleb Rutherford | 06/25/08
Killzone 2 first amazed and wowed the PlayStation audience when Sony concluded their PS3 launch announcement at E3 several years ago. Later proven to be a computer generated video that showcased what Sony and Guerrilla Games felt the PlayStation 3 was capable of, we have seen very little from this delayed shooter. While the end product will never be able to live up to the hype that surrounded it during the first showing, PS3 owners will be pleased to know that Killzone 2 is coming along quite nicely and is shaping up to be a nice addition to the platform.

Bionic Commando Rearmed
By Kaleb Rutherford | 04/08/08

Gamers who recall the NES days will think of many titles that they will call one of their favorites.  Because there is so much love for retro games, many Developers have released remakes of original titles and sequels set in the same universe.   Despite this, where is the love for Bionic Commando?  A title that is well-loved and remembered outside of Japan, but suffered dreadful sells in the land of the rising sun, Bionic Commando has sat on the shelves of Capcom since the days of the NES.  Fortunately for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners the much loved NES version is getting a brand new sequel and a remake of the original.  In this preview we cover the remake--Bionic Commando Rearmed.
