The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai
By Kaleb Rutherford | 04/08/08
The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai is one of the titles Microsoft is heavily promoting in its new revamped XNA program that will allow users to make and eventually publish games on Xbox Live using the XNA tools. Although the full program that will see games on the marketplace won't be available until later in 2008, titles like The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai will soon be on your console. Fortunately for gamers, The Dishwasher isn't a dish washing simulation. However, I am sure there is at least a small portion of the market that would find that idea appealing. Instead, of washing and scrubbing dishes with soap and water, players cut through Ninjas in this bloody and gory side scrolling action game.

Wii Fit
By Kaleb Rutherford | 03/10/08
Hey you! Get up off that couch and lets get in shape! While those words may be something that gamers don't want to hear and would have spelled disaster for a game a few years ago, Nintendo is hoping to change the way people look at games with their upcoming Wii Fit. Already a hit in Japan, Wii Fit will help gamers in their quest to get their bodies in shape and be more fit. An English translated build of Wii Fit was shown at GDC 08 and the game is shaping up to get you in shape!

Mario Kart Wii
By Kaleb Rutherford | 02/26/08
One of the most popular racing games on any platform is Mario Kart. The last console release of Mario Kart came on the GameCube and wasn't as well received as prior titles. Fortunately, Nintendo redeemed themselves with the incredibly addictive Nintendo DS version that introduced online play for the first time in the series. Building on the success of the last title, Nintendo hopes to bring the series to a whole new generation of players on the Nintendo Wii. However, for those hoping that Nintendo would release the game early in 2008, you may be a bit disappointed. But for those who can be a bit patient, it is looking like Mario Kart Wii will be worth the wait.

flOw
By Kaleb Rutherford | 02/22/08

Back in 2007, Sony released one of their first unique gaming experiences on the PlayStation Network known as flOw.  This PlayStation 3 exclusive title gathered much attention and gave PS3 owners something cool to play that no other console offered.  Now Sony is bringing the experience over to its PlayStation Portable next month.

Super Smash Bros Brawl
By Kaleb Rutherford | 02/20/08
Nothing depressed Nintendo owners more than learning that the eagerly-anticipated Super Smash Bros Brawl was going to slip from its December 3, 2007 release date and come out in January/February 2008. The news got worse as Nintendo pushed back the release again for a March 9, 2008 release in the US. Fortunately, the title should not slip any further as the game has arrived in Japan. We will take one last look at the game, in this preview, before the release next month.

Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds
By Kaleb Rutherford | 02/14/08
Hot Shots Golf is one of my favorite golf franchises on any console. I have fond memories flying to and from E3 and playing Hot Shots Golf on my PSP and playing all the different versions throughout the life of the PlayStation 2. But even with how great and polished the gameplay is, the next-generation version of the title is getting a ton of new features and gameplay.

MLB 08: The Show
By Kaleb Rutherford | 02/07/08
Although the official start of the baseball season is still a few months away, the hard-working folks over at Sony have been busy all off-season polishing and putting the finishing touches on their much-beloved baseball title MLB 08: The Show. This is our first look at the title.

Half-Life 2: The Orange Box
By Jake Mcneill | 07/27/07

With impressive new titles like Crysis and Mercenaries 2 being shown off in EA’s booth at E3, one might suspect that something like Half-Life 2 would seem like old news. However, while the core of Valve’s re-release of the game, simply titled The Orange Box, may be a game that’s now a few years old, they’re packing so much content into The Orange Box, including new stuff, that it’s renewed interest in the old game.

Kengo: Legend of the 9
By Jake Mcneill | 07/27/07

Some may remember that after the commercial failure of ambitious titles like Psychonauts and Advent Rising, the folks at Majesco were in a great deal of financial trouble, at which point they decided to stay well away from risky, expensive projects. This business strategy would seem to suggest that the company would most likely resort to publishing primarily handheld titles and perhaps some Wii software, and indeed, most of their E3 lineup this year was headed to one of Nintendo’s game systems.

Kane & Lynch
By Daniel "Monk" Pel... | 07/26/07

After seeing the game a few months ago, I was interested in seeing how the game has progressed while at this year’s E3. I have to say I was disappointed. Certainly the game looks decent and the gameplay is well on the way to emulating the Hitman franchise with a co-op style, but the little to no improvement that I saw doesn’t fill me with hope.

Puzzle De Harvest Moon
By Jake Mcneill | 07/25/07
Few game series are as niche as Harvest Moon. As a game series comprised of what can best be described as “farming RPGs”, the target audience for these games is already narrowed down to “players looking for a slow-paced but unique and somewhat Japanesey game”. Add to that the fact that the series has been around for some time now, and the target audience narrows considerably, thanks to the additional descriptor, “not drained of all interest in the series by the numerous previous titles”. I doubt there are still very many out there waiting in high anticipation for the next big Harvest Moon game, and with Puzzle De Harvest Moon doing something completely new and different for the series, one could argue that they’re narrowing the target audience even more.

Post-E3 2008: StarCraft II
By Kaleb Rutherford | 07/25/07
I have many fond memories of the original StarCraft. In fact, I still consider it to be the very best Real Time Strategy game ever made. StarCraft provided some of the very best single player and multiplayer gaming moments on my PC. Not a single soul on the earth could stop my Terran rush attack or the mighty power of my Protoss air attacks. I was ruthless and would leave my enemies completely destroyed. Fortunately for us all, we will soon get to relive these past strategies and develop new ones as Blizzard is currently developing StarCraft II.

Mass Effect
By Daniel "Monk" Pel... | 07/25/07

Bioware is famous for telling incredibly deep and rich stories with great gameplay.  Some of their past titles include Baldur’s Gate, Baldur’s Gate II, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, and most recently--Jade Empire.  Beginning with the original Xbox, Bioware provided players with some great RPG experiences.  I had great expectations when I entered into a private showing of Mass Effect behind closed doors at Microsoft’s booth.  What I was shown quickly became the best game at E3 2006.

Mass Effect
By Daniel "Monk" Pel... | 07/25/07

Another look at Mass Effect brings more revelations. In case you haven’t been paying attention, each of the cutscenes in the game are rendered not only in the game’s engine, but also happening “real time” as well. The allows the player to interrupt a conversation to cut it short and move on with the story, or perhaps even influence things a certain way. This branching story path is what we were shown.

Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party
By Jake Mcneill | 07/25/07
The Dance Dance Revolution series has just about seen it all by this point. Amongst zillions of installments in arcades and on multiple game platforms, we’ve seen DDR games where people sing, where people do arm motions in front of a camera… we’ve seen DDR games with Disney and Mario themes, we’ve seen DDR games spread to health clubs, gyms and even some schools. We’ve seen DDR on unlikely platforms like the PC and Game Boy Advance. Now, DDR is coming to Nintendo’s motion-sensing Wii, just in time to coincide with Nintendo’s appeal to the health-conscious crowd with their Wii Fit game.
