Folklore
By Kaleb Rutherford | 05/18/07
For a console that is lacking a lot of original content, I was completely surprised to see Sony overlook even a small mention of their upcoming PlayStation 3 Action RPG title from Game Arts. Although this is the same studio that gave us the Genji series, their latest title is is definitely much more fun and playable than the last Genji title ever was. Known previously as Monster Kingdom: Unknown Realm when the title was first shown at the last Tokyo Game Show, the game is now being called Folks Soul in Japan. Even though that title would appear to work in the North American market, Sony has gone with the title of Folklore in this region. But no matter what the game is called, Folklore is a title that impressed me.

High Velocity Bowling
By Kaleb Rutherford | 05/18/07
One of the best new downloadable games you never heard of is coming to the PlayStation Network in roughly a month. Despite receiving virtually no press, Sony had High Velocity Bowling stuck in the back of their Gamer's Day event in San Diego. The results were surprising.

SOCOM Confrontation
By Kaleb Rutherford | 05/17/07
One of the most beloved franchises on the PlayStation 2 is SOCOM. This franchise has been immensely popular since the first title. Over the course of the franchise, over 10 million units have sold. To this day, it is the number one PS2 title played online and there are well over two million registered users in the SOCOM community. During peak usage, over 50,000 players normally participate in online matches--with the average user playing 4 and a half hours per session! SOCOM players are definitely hardcore about their game and this fall they would be able to take the fun and excitement of SOCOM to the next-gneration. Today, Sony officially lifted the embargo on their announcement of SOCOM Confrontation for the PlayStation 3.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma
By Kaleb Rutherford | 05/03/07
Last generation the original Xbox was the home of one of the best games of the entire generation. Tecmo and Team Ninja released Ninja Gaiden exclusively on the Xbox despite the low install base of consoles compared to the PlayStation 2. Despite the game being critically acclaimed, a vast majority of players were turned off by the incredibly challenging difficulty of the game. To rectify this, Tecmo and Team Ninja released Ninja Gaiden Black that offered players an easier game mode. Now Tecmo is readying an all-new version of Ninja Gaiden. While the game does contain a few new elements, this is essentially a 720p, High Definition version of Ninja Gaiden Black. But is it worth playing the same game again? Keep reading to see how it is progressing.

LittleBigPlanet
By Kaleb Rutherford | 04/01/07
In the next-generation of gaming, Sony has a goal in mind. This goal is to create tools to give users the ability to make their own worlds, change the way they play their games, interact with each other, share information, and do it all from a free online interface via the PlayStation 3. This is their Game 3.0 vision. At GDC 2007, Sony's Phil Harrison gave two examples of how Game 3.0 would change the world of videogames and make PlayStation 3 the most exciting console in the world. The first example is one we have covered already. It is the new online interface for PS3 that will be available, for free, this fall known as Home. The other stunning example shown at GXC 07 is a game from a newly formed Developer called LittleBigPlanet.

Fable 2
By Kaleb Rutherford | 03/28/07
Peter Molyneux is a Developer that has always strived to deliver epic gaming experiences. His past projects have been filled with big promises that sometimes had to be cut from the final product. The best case of where this occurred was the Xbox classic Role Playing Game Fable. Although Fable was one of the best selling games the year it was released--not to mention the highest selling new franchise that year--the fans were upset that Molyneux wasn't able to fulfill the vision he laid out. He recognizes the mistakes he made by talking about the game and features that he hoped would make it in the final product and promises to be a bit more careful when talking about his future projects. At GDC 2007, he had a chance to show off an early portion of the upcoming Fable 2 and discuss the game in a bit more detail. Keep reading to learn more!

Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
By Kaleb Rutherford | 03/27/07

Although many have attempted to create a good Real Time Strategy experience on the console, almost every single title has failed to come anywhere near the quality and fun that players can find on the PC platform.  This all changed with  release of Battle of Middle Earth II on the Xbox 360.  Though it was not perfect, it quickly became the standard for how Developers should make RTS games on a console--without a mouse and keyboard.  Taking the lessons they learned from Battle for Middle Earth II, EA is now ready to bring the latest, and much anticipated, installment in the Command & Conquer series to the Xbox 360.  But the question remains--can they continue their RTS console success?

Spider-Man 3
By Kaleb Rutherford | 02/18/07

Ever since I was a kid, I have loved the amazing adventures of Peter Parker and Spider-Man.  Now with the third movie on the way, and sadly rumored to be the last, Activision and Developer Treyarch are once again bringing players the videogame version of the upcoming film.  Like the prior games based on the film, this title will follow the plot of the movie.  This means we will get to see plenty of Venom Suit Spidey in action!

Valhalla Knights
By Kaleb Rutherford | 02/16/07
Despite all the hype Sony built for the PlayStation Portable, the console has lagged behind the Nintendo DS in terms of sales and creativity. But there is still no denying the fact that the PSP is a very powerful piece of hardware and can deliver incredible gaming experiences to Developers who take the time to build them. Utilizing nearly the power of the PlayStation 2, with WiFi, analog controls, and a beautiful, crisp wide screen--the gamer has all the tools in the palm of their hands to experience the same type of epic gameplay experiences that they normally do on their PS2 console.

Blast Works: Build, Fuse & Destroy
By Jake Mcneill | 12/26/06
PC gamers who browse through online offerings of free games for download on the internet are by now very familiar with the game Tumiki Fighters. If you haven’t played it yet, I’d highly recommend you try it, as it’s a fun space shooting game with a great original premise that doesn’t require a super-powerful machine to run. Or, you could just wait until it hits the Wii, in the form of the newly-redubbed Blast Works.

Dragon Quest IX: Guardians of the Starry Sky Announced
By Kaleb Rutherford | 12/12/06

Today Square-Enix announced that Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito (translated means Guardians of the Starry Sky) exclusively for the Nintendo DS. Yes, you read that right--for the first time in the history of the Dragon Quest franchise, a new title will appear on a handheld first.  While many had rumored Square-Enix to announce Dragon Quest IX today, most felt like the title would appear on the Nintendo Wii instead.

Hands On: WoW: Burning Crusade - The Dranei
By Chris Acton | 11/09/06
The Dranei have been referred to as the most improbable and least attractive Alliance race. Why improbable? Well, much hay has been made in forums about their alien origins and their capital city is, yes, a giant crashed spaceship. On the physical beauty side, even with blue skin and tails, I think this new class will be winning beauty contests long before the gnomes will, but that's because no one likes the gnomes, not even their fellow ankle-biters. The Dranei aren't really new in the Warcraft universe, but like their counter-parts, the Blood Elves, they are new to WoW. The Blood Elves are the Horde race and where the Dranei are lumpy, blue and good, the Blood Elves are slender, attractive, and the only genuinely evil race in the game

Hands On: Fury
By Daniel "Monk" Pel... | 11/02/06
What is going to be the next evolution of the MMO genre? In many respects CounterStrike is an MMOFPS in that it is played by millions of players on line every day. There are countless servers and players of varying abilities. In order to do better, players need to improve their skill. The typical MMORPG uses the idea of giving players greater challenges and abilities to match those challenges, in a clear progression. While some player skill improvement can occur, it isn’t really the emphasis.

Bionicle: Heroes
By Daniel "Monk" Pel... | 11/02/06

Building on the success of LEGO: Star Wars and LEGO: Star Wars II, Bionicle: Heroes is coming very soon. Based on the most popular line of LEGOs ever, this title takes the same basic formula that was such a hit with the Star Wars games and transfers it to a different universe. Naturally, there are some changes to be made, but mostly the same gameplay will be present.

Hands On: Call of Duty 3
By Daniel "Monk" Pel... | 11/02/06
Call of Duty 2 was one of the reasons to own an Xbox 360 at the console’s launch if you couldn’t get it for the PC. The combination of presentation along with gameplay made for what was rightly considered one of the best games of the year. First person shooter fans may be getting tired of revisiting World War II, but something about the Call of Duty franchise keeps things fresh. The storytelling is great, the controls are tight and responsive, and there really seems to be some care given to the player and the experience, rather than just slapping some new missions together.

Hands On: DOA X2
By Daniel "Monk" Pel... | 11/02/06

The first thing that you may notice with Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 is the name – the word “Volleyball” is missing. That is intentional, as the emphasis is very clearly not on that one activity anymore. Being added to the mix are some new minigames, as well as a full-fledged jet ski racing game referred to as Marine Battle.
