Devil May Cry

Developer: Capcom | Publisher: Capcom
Players: 1 Player Game | Release Date: 10/16/01 | Genre: Action

I did it! That's right I did it... well, I did it on Easy anyway. Devil May Cry is a must have game for PS2 owners everywhere. I don't care who you are or what genre of game you like to dabble in, this game is, for lack of a better word, COOL!

You play as devil hunter Dante, the son of a legendary devil hunter Sparda who rid the world of evil. Evil in this case takes the shape of a character named Mundus but all this doesn't matter because you'll be too involved with the combat.

For the first time ever you are granted what you've always wished for unlimited ammo! That's right, no need to search for those extra clips you just keep firing. Tired of firing you're duel Ebony & Ivory (your guns) okay, bring out the big boy a.k.a. Alastor (your sword) Offering these two types of combat makes for outstanding fight sequences against various amounts of enemies.

Speaking of enemies they're everywhere and come in all shapes and forms. There are Marionettes and phantoms and other strange supernatural beings. Now for the record I'm not a supernatural fan. I don't enjoy stuff dealing with the undead etc. but this game is an acception.

If there was a down side it would be near the end (don't worry I won't ruin it) but you start doing things I didn't expect. But this is nothing to stop you from running out and buying this game because renting this bad boy will only act as a tease!

But you don't have to take my word for it. Early figures are showing that Devil May Cry is selling more then Capcom originally expected. Some 700,000 copies we're shipped and sold when the original shipment was set for 600,000. So if you don't like what I have to say go by the numbers.

Let's talk replay value for just a moment. So you finish the game, awesome. But you haven't seen everything yet. See, on easy mode you only get some of the bosses and sub-bosses. Suit up my friend because there is more to explore and if you saved before the game was over you start the game again exactly were you left off power wise.

Okay so it's cool and the story is good but what else. Well the background is something out of ICO. Yes there are fixed cameras (no looking around) but they didn't hinder me in any battles. In fact the cinematic quality of the cameras adds to the other great aspect of this gamethe soundtrack. The mood is established with a stunning array of various music types. A hint of electronica (as per the norm for fight sequences) and a choir that scared the heck outta me. Don't believe me wait till you get up to chapter 20 in that giant castle and then we'll talk.

Devil May Cry is without a doubt the most exciting game I own in my collection. Yes ICO is the prettiest but with unlimited ammo... well I don't need to say anything else!
