While the Xbox was a commercial success in the US and Europe, gamers in Japan stayed away from the console mainly because there were no Japanese RPG's available for it. However, this is all changing with a deal from Mistwalker to develop games for Xbox 360 in Japan. Who exactly is Mistwalker? It is a new Japanese company in Japan headed up by Hironobu Sakaguchi. You know him best for his Final Fantasy series. Here are the details we know about their first Xbox 360 title. Other people involved include Toriyama, of Dragon Warrior fame, Kusonoki, of Panzer Dragoon fame, and Nobuo Uematsu, the former music composer for Final Fantasy.
The main character, Shu, and his group of friends are trying to stop the destruction of the world by an old timer. To do this, they must unlock the use of magic that has long been forgotten. As magical abilities are unlocked, players will gain different shadows that will give strength and power to their master. Players will have to mix and match Shadows to give them different strengths and abilities. The system sounds like something that would come from Square-Enix and looks to be one of the unique selling points of Blue Dragon.
We have been told that Mistwalker will be concentrating on a lot of character development and great battles with monsters. They also will be taking full advantage of the powerful new Xbox 360 hardware to ensure that the game looks and feels very realistic by creating realistic effects for the environments.
Unfortunately that is all the information we currently have on this eagerly awaited Xbox 360 RPG. Blue Dragon currently does not have a release date but we have been told that it will be available 쥡rlyn the Xbox 360's life. Hopefully that means gamers in Japan and all over the world will be getting their hands on this title early in 2006. *fingers crossed*
