Burnout Legends

Players: 1 Player Game | Genre: Driving

Release Date: 09/13/05

In it's short lifetime, the PSP handheld has had an amazing track record on the quality of its racing games. However, most of the racing franchises brought to this handheld haven't had many games released on other consoles in several years. That is soon to change with Burnout Legends. So how does a popular modern racing series stack up on the PSP? Lets take a closer look.

Burnout Legends takes tracks from all of the other Burnout games and combines them into one package. This will allow you to play such favorites as Harbor Town from Burnout 1, Big Surf Shore and Palm Bay Heights from Burnout 2 and Downtown from Burnout 3.

Besides the best tracks from past Burnout titles, Legends will also have some great new gameplay modes. These will include Legends FaceOff, Legends Grand Prix, and Pursuit Rage. I was told that Pursuit Rage was a mix of Burnout 2's Pursuit and Road Rage modes.

There will also be a regular Road Rage mode, along with Crash, Race, Burning Lap, Eliminator and Preview modes. One of the most exciting new features to the gameplay is that you will be able to race against opponents via the PSP's Wi-Fi function. At this time, there is no word on how many players will be able to participate in a single race. We were told that in-formation should be made available before the release date.

Although Burnout Legends is still early, it took up a lot more space than other PSP games in Sony's booth. Because the title is still early, I found that there is still quite a lot of work to be done to ensure this Burnout title has the same polish of its larger-screened console brothers. I was assured that the final product will be as polished and fun as all the other titles in the series. Since this series has never let me down, I think they will be able to clean up the rest of the game before the September 2005 release date.
