ddr_supernova.gifDance Dance Revolution titles changed my life. You see, I have a little confession to make... I can't dance. And if you saw me try, you would pay me to stop. However, Konami's Dance Dance Revolution series has made me become the dancing superstar I dreamed of. So when I heard that Konami was ushering in a new version of the DDR series, I grabbed my dance shoes, RedOctane Dane Pad, and got ready to dance the night away.

In Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA, it appears that Konami has run out of the techno and fast-paced music that made the series so popular. While you will still find some songs in there like this, this time around there is a lot of contemporary music like American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, The Buggies, and others. The way these songs are setup have the music video from each artist playing in the background while you dance away to them. While longtime fans of the series may dislike the decisions to move to more contemporary songs and may not enjoy seeing people dance around non the screen while you dance on your own, I give Konami some credit for brining a bit more variety to the song selection.

While the song selection may be a bit different from past titles, the sound and graphics are exactly what they should be. The music and sound effects are all excellent and the graphics include high quality music videos and the familiar DDR arrows to show you where to step at.

New to SuperNOVA is a single player game that has the player complete three songs and get a specified rating on songs at higher difficulty levels. As you complete these challenges, players will be asked to enter Showdown mode where you will have to dance to a song but ignore certain arrows. Players will also find EyeToy support, Workout mode, and the ever-popular two player mode.

Dance Dance Revolution fans are used to buying new versions of their favorite dancing franchise and even with some slight changes to the formula, they probably won't win too many new fans to the series with this one. If you love DDR, I you don't have to know anything else but to go out and buy this one. Casual fans will probably be just as happy buying an older version of DDR in the bargain bin.
