After Nintendo revealed that they will not host an E3 Press Conference at E3 2013, 2K Games has sent word out that they will not be having a booth at E3 2013. Instead, the company will have meeting rooms.
Ronnie Singh, Digital Marketing Director, had this to say:
"While 2K will not have a booth on the show floor at this year’s E3 conference, we will have a lot of great news coming your way this spring. Stay tuned for our live gameplay and event broadcasts to see the latest gameplay from our upcoming titles."
2K Games has Sid Meier's Civilization 5: Brave New World, XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iOS, Borderlands 2 DLC, NBA 2K14, and WWE 2K14 on their schedule for Spring 2013.
Is 2K Games not having a booth, at E3 2013, a big deal? Yes and no. 2K Games never had a booth that was open to the general attendees. Only Press and Business Partners were allowed in their booth. Because of this, it only makes sense for them to move up to a meeting room.

Remember how EA didn’t appear on Sony’s stage for the reveal of the PlayStation 4? EA said, afterwards that it didn’t make strategic sense for them. I commented that this must mean they were “in bed” with Microsoft. This appears to officially be the case as Respawn Entertainment’s first game, from the original creators of Call of Duty, is going to be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and next Xbox platform.
Respawn Entertainment will be showing off something at E3 for the first time. Will they also be at the May 21st Xbox Reveal event or will they make their big announcement at Microsoft’s E3 Press Briefing?
According to Konrad Tomazkiewicz, from CD Projeckt RED, DRM is the worst thing imaginable. And I think he knows where Microsoft wants to bring the future of consoles:
“In my opinion, DRM is the worst thing in the gaming industry. It’s limiting our rights to play games owned by us. Let’s imagine that you have a game that requires internet connection to prove that you actually bought it. What if you lose your connection because of your internet provider? You can’t play anymore. It is worth mentioning that many people in Poland or even in the US and other countries still don’t have an internet connection or have a very slow one. I was in such a situation once and I really didn’t understand why I couldn’t play games that I had bought. I believe that as long as people feel that companies are cheating them by selling games they cannot play freely, limiting their rights, and making unfair DRM, then they will fight against that.
Piracy is often an example of trying to fight the system. Do you know that there are people on pirate forums raging on guys that downloaded Witcher 2 from torrents and didn’t pay for it? In fact, they try to convince everybody to simply buy the game. Our fans out there really appreciate that we trust them and that we treat them with honesty and respect. For us, they are friends and we treat them so. We believe that DRM is not stopping piracy but can be a real pain for legal users. And if this is the case, why would you want to punish your customers instead of supporting them? We are receiving a huge number of letters from people who think alike and support us. I believe that we are slowly changing the way the game industry thinks. There will always be people who don’t have money and will download our games from torrents. But I believe that if they will have more cash in the future, then they will buy our next titles to help us fight for gamers’ rights.”
We are painted a picture of what the next Xbox is rumored to do. So does Tomazkiewicz know the truth or is he commenting on speculation?
Do you wish you were rich? Maybe you should buddy up with Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision. With the success of their titles, his total compensation jumped from 8.1 Million in 2011 to 64.9 million in 2012. In 2013, that will rise another 16 Million if the company continues to hit sales targets.
Currently, Kotick is the second highest CEO representing a publicly traded company behind Oracle’s CEO Larry Ellison.
CD Projekt RED’s Studio Manage, Adam Badowski, had revealed that they were looking into multiplayer options for The Witcher 3. However, these plans have been scrapped.
“There’s no place for multiplayer in so strongly a story-driven game as The Witcher 3. We want to focus on the single-player experience, delivering more than 100 hours of truly immersive gameplay. Geralt can be only one…”
Looking forward to the next Call of Duty Modern Warfare title? Looks like Activision is taking the franchise in another direction as the next title will be Call of Duty: Ghosts. Retailer Tesco posted a listing for the unannounced title:
“The franchise that has defined a generation of gaming is set to raise the bar once again with the all-new Call of Duty: Ghosts. Published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward, the studio that created the original Call of Duty and the seminal Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series. Call of Duty: Ghosts ushers in the next generation of the franchise, delivering a riveting all-new gameplay experience built on an entirely new story, setting and cast, all powered by a new next-generation Call of Duty engine.”
Quantic Dream delivered 35 minutes of gameplay footage of its upcoming Beyond: Two Souls at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this past weekend. The footage shows us how immersive the new title is and gives us some insight to the mature themes that star Ellen Page will face during the gameplay.
Though there might be a few spoilers in the video, they are kept to a minimum and I highly recommend you watch the video below.
Beyond: Two Souls will launch on October 8, 2013, only on PlayStation 3.
Watch Dog has a new trailer and the game is coming November 19, 2013 for current gen consoles and PC. The question remains, when will the new Xbox and PlayStation 4 launch so Watch Dog can appear on those platforms as well?
How would you combat piracy? For Greenheart Games’ new Game Dev Tycoon, they decided to get a bit creative. At the release of the title, they uploaded a slightly altered version, of the game, to popular torrent sites.
As the player begins to release their titles, in the game, they slowly lose money until they go bankrupt. There is even a screen that mentions piracy of your titles caused the studio to go broke. What makes things more hilarious is the people, who pirated the game, went on to Greenheart Games forums and complained about it. One poster wrote: "Why are there so many people that pirate? It ruins me!"
Greenheart Games was watching the usage and they had over 93.6% piracy rate for a title that was only $7.99 to begin with.
Greenheart Games said, about the situation:
"We are not wealthy and it’s unlikely that we will be any time soon, so stop pretending like we don’t need your 8 dollars! We are just two guys working our butts off, trying to start our own game studio to create games which are fun to play. The game is DRM free, you can use it on up to three of your computers for your own use, you get copies for Mac, Windows and Linux, you can continue your game before piracy wrecked your company and we even aim to provide you with a free Steam key once the game is on Steam. All for a mere eight bucks."
Finally, you can view the new character changes for the reworked Sejuani and reworked Trundle Champions for the popular F2P PC/Mac title League of Legends below:
Riot Games has announced that Lissandra The Ice Witch will be their next new champion. She is a mid-lane AP caster and we anticipate her release in the next two weeks.
