M3: My Morning Musings - Delays, Battlefield Hardline Revealed, & More

Valve has delayed the launch of the Steam Controller and Steam Machine hardware until sometime in 2015. Valve is using this time to help greatly improve the Steam Controller. Many colleagues I know in the industry have used and said the Steam Controller need tweaking before it is ready for primetime. I think this is a great thing for the Steamboxes. Valve needs to get the controller 100% right in order to make this thing a success.

Battlefield Hardline was officially announced today and it is Dead Speace Developer Visceral Games next title. Co-Produced with DICE, Battlefield Hardline will feature an intense single player campaign, with lots of replayability, and a ton of different multiplayer modes. You can see a leaked video below that uses the codename “Omaha” for Battlefield Hardline.

Dragon Quest VIII has appeared on the New Zealand Apple App Store. That means it is headed for the rest of the world over the next day. The game is said to be available for $19.99. A steep price but then again, you are getting a full PlayStation 2 quality game. Dragon Quest VIII will be playable only in portrait mode.

Bethesda today revealed that BattleCry, the first project for the new BattleCry Studios will be shown off, for the first time, at E3 2014. "The BattleCry team is happy to unveil the game that bears our studio’s name," said Rich Vogel, president and executive producer at BattleCry Studios. "We have been hard at work to create a fresh experience for gamers that brings together multiplayer action with visually stunning combat and are excited to share details about the game and have people play BATTLECRY in Bethesda’s booth at E3.”

Sony revealed that the eagerly anticipated The Order: 1886 will need some extra time to get polished. Instead of a fall 2014 release date, the game will now release in February 2015. While it is disappointing to lose a big game for the fall, the extra time could be put to good use to make the game much better. However, what does this mean for the PlayStation 4 lineup this fall? Does Sony have anything other than Driveclub as a big release?

This really could be an E3 that proves these next-generation games are taking much longer to polish and that 2015 is the year that people should really jump on board the next-generation console train.
