M3: My Morning Musings - Nintendo says No to E3, Xbox 720 Revealed 5-21-13, & More

Nintendo has revealed some plans that are sure to turn smiles upside down for those who enjoyed attending the Nintendo E3 Press Briefing each year before the show began. Historically, Nintendo has had their E3 Press Briefing the Tuesday E3 began several hours before the show floor opened. For Nintendo, this gave them “the last word” after Microsoft and Sony moved their Press Briefings back to Monday.

Nintendo has elected to cease their E3 Press Briefing and will focus on their Nintendo Direct events. Nintendo Boss Satoru Iwata says:
"We [have] decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past. Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market."

Has Nintendo conceded that their announcements this year won’t be able to stand next to new consoles from Microsoft and Sony? Is Nintendo already waving the white flag on this generation?

In other Nintendo news, the company has decided to stop releasing sales for the Nintendo DS. With over 150 million sold and almost a billion games, it appears that the original DS is quietly dying. When asked for specific sales figures, on the DS, Nintendo said:
"Nintendo will continue to sell Nintendo DS hardware but is not revealing a unit sales forecast at this time."

Goodbye Nintendo DS!

After long speculation, Microsoft will finally officially acknowledge their next-generation Xbox to the Public. Microsoft will host an event in Redmond, Washington on May 21, 2013, at 10 AM PST. There will be streams online and seen on Spike TV.

Microsoft plans on detailing the console more and sharing its full lineup during their E3 2013 Press Briefing 19 days later.
Time to put all these rumors to rest!

Moving from E3 news, the cult-classic Deadly Premonition, originally released on the Xbox 360 in 2010, is getting a Director’s Cut for the PlayStation 3. The new version is said to fix the controls in both combat and navigation. If they succeed in this, Deadly Premonition may just finally gain some traction in the market.

A picture of the Beyond: Two Souls Script has appeared online and it is quite intimidating. Would you believe that the upcoming PlayStation 3 title from Quantic Dreams fills up 2,000 pages? Beyond: Two Souls, besides being an eagerly awaited PS3 title will also be featured at the Tribeca Film Festival. The trees who were killed, to print the 2,000 script pages, refused to comment.

Hey SimCity fans, guess what? Maxis and EA has released new 2.0 patch that is supposed to help fix the game!!!  No, it isn’t adding an offline mode. Sadly, the patch has actually made the game worse with new bugs, cosmetic issues, cities losing changes when you return to them, sewage not working, leaderboards staying empty, and more.

You would think that with all the problems SimCity launched with that any patches would be thoroughly tested for any problems...

2K and 2K Marin, the Developers of BioShock 2, have revealed that The Bureau: XCOM Declassified will be released on August 20, 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC platforms. The game has suffered numerous delays and has, thus far, been ill-received by the press. Have they finally been able to solve the problems and create an engaging experience? Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K had this to say:

“We’re thrilled about 2K Marin’s refined vision for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. The game has evolved through a creative and iterative development process, and the result is a narrative-driven experience that is smart, engaging, and challenges players to think tactically.”

We are looking forward to seeing more about The Bureau: XCOM Declassified at E3 2013.

As we find ourselves knee-deep in the NFL Draft, the Madden cover athlete has been announced! This year, Barry Sanders has won the right to appear on the cover--beating out Adrian Peterson in the final round of tournament voting.

Barry Sanders is one of the best Running Backs ever to play in the NFL. However, the Madden cover usually comes with a curse during the next season. Does this mean something bad will happen to Mr. Sanders this year? Will the Lions have a bad year? Or is the Madden Cover curse just a myth?

Madden NFL 25 (the 25th anniversary of the game) releases on August 27, 2013.

Users in the UK are having some issues redeeming their Steam Codes for Dead Island: Riptide. Users on the Steam Forums are reporting that Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is unlocking instead of the new Dead Island. Deep Silver Community Manager, Maurice Tan, had this to say:

"To the best of my knowledge this issue would affect retail copies in the United Kingdom and Nordic countries. We are aware of this mixup by whoever printed these codes for a completely different game from a different publisher, and are working on a best possible solution to help affected players and retailers.”

However, with the poor metacritic score and reception by players, perhaps everyone is better off with a different game activating with purchase of Dead Island: Riptide?
