M3: My Morning Musings - Wolfenstein Dated, DOOM Beta Coming, Bioshock Developer Shuts Down, & More

Bethesda has revealed that the eagerly anticipated Wolfenstein: The New Order, originally set for release in late 2013, will be hitting store shelves on May 20, 2014. Those who pre-order the game will receive access to the upcoming Beta for the DOOM relaunch. However, no details on when DOOM will be entering into Beta. Could this be one of Bethesda’s E3 titles?

Wolfenstein: The New Order will be releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

XSEED has announced that Ragnarok Odyssey ACE will release for both the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita on April 1, 2014. The PS3 version will be available both digitally and physical disk for $39.99, while the PS Vita version will be available in stores for $39.99 and digitally for $34.99.

The ultimate edition of Ragnarok Odyssey will feature cross-platform play between PS3 and Vitaand include a ton of new content. Players of the original Ragnarok Odyssey will be able to transfer their character’s basic physical features such as name, face and job class (but not clothing), as well as weapon cards and monster cards (cards equipped to clothing or acquired via NEAR will not transfer over). Any additional DLC acquired can also be transferred by re-downloading it from the PlayStation Store.

Activision has announced their plans to release upcoming Skylanders figures in staggered releases set throughout 2014. This is being done instead of releasing large groups of figures at once. There are still 20% of the Swap Force figures that have yet to be released so expect the next five to come out later this spring. Also set to release is a special Spring Version of Trigger Happy called Springtime Trigger Happy with egg-shaped packaging and bunny ears. Activision plans on releasing at least two other Seasonal, special edition of previously released characters.

Harmonix revealed their next, previously unannounced, title for the PC called Chroma. This is a first person multiplayer shooter that features music. Alex Rigopulos, the CEO and Co-Founder of Harmonix had this to say:
"Chroma has been a dream project of mine for some time. Watching the teams at Harmonix and Hidden Path begin to bring this vision to life has been tremendously exciting. We're also thrilled to release an alpha version of this game and to evolve it in collaboration with our players. We can't wait to hear what people think of this new approach to both first-person shooters and music games."

Players can sign up to be a part of the Closed alpha test by going here.

Cliff Bleszinski, former Epic Games Designer said he is going to work on a First Person Arena Shooter for the PC as his next game. He says that the days of trying to obtain Game Informer covers and big E3 reveals are over and dead. He feels the PC is the space where games should be developed because that is where the community is. No word on when this new project will start or when we will get to see it.

Looking for more Fallout? Well I hate to disappoint you but Game Director Todd Howard said at DICE that they don’t have a timeframe for their next game announcement but it isn’t coming soon. I guess this means no Fallout 4 announcement at E3.

In sad news, Ken Levine, Studio Head at Irrational Games, is closing the studio after 17 years. This is the Studio that brought us Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite. He is instead creating a new studio with a smaller team, of 15 people, to create story driven, highly replayable games for the core gamer as digital only releases. Speaking of laying off close to two hundred people, Levine said this:
“There's no great way to lay people off, and our first concern is to make sure that the people who are leaving have as much support as we can give them during this transition. Besides financial support, the staff will have access to the studio for a period of time to say their goodbyes and put together their portfolios. Other Take-Two studios will be on hand to discuss opportunities within the company, and we'll be hosting a recruiting day where we'll be giving 3rd party studios and publishers a chance to hold interviews with departing Irrational staff.”

Got an Xbox One? If so, you may be experiencing a bug that causes the screen to go completely black. Xbox Support, via Twitter, says: "If it happens, please power cycle by holding power for 10 seconds.”

No word on when a patch to fix the bug will be out.

More bad news for Xbox One owners. Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes will only run at 720P on the Xbox One-—while the PlayStation 4 version will run at 1080P. Both versions will run at 60 Frames Per Second but this is yet another big Third Party title that is running at a lower resolution on the Xbox One. Will the trend ever end?

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, also coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, will only run at 30 Frames Per Second.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes releases on March 18, 2014.
