Players: 1+ Player Game | Genre: Strategy
Release Date: Fall 2014
Earth is no longer what it used to be and humanity, despite the advances in science and technology, has outgrown their home world and needs somewhere new to stretch their legs. By going into space, the development team is able to tackle the series from a fresh perspective because all things are new. Anything is possible in this new world but the game will still be rooted in strategy and replayability. Each game will allow the player to craft a new future for humanity. You will be on an alien planet and get to tackle over five thousand years of history to see how humanity evolves and grows as a people. Of course, no alien planet would be complete without other races also vying for domination.
As the game begins, players will be blasting off from earth and they must choose a National Identity, who they bring with them, the cargo, and customizing their spaceship. Each of these choices will impact the game you will play.
Gone is the old way of thinking about the tech tree and upgrades. In its place is a new “Tech Web.” This means that the upgrades are not linear anymore because there is no set path on the way humanity will evolve from this point in their history. We are in uncharted territory. Players will have to choose between becoming part of the alien world, focus on technological advances in robotics, and finally treat this new alien world like earth 2.0 and go about life like they did before.
Players will still find similar gameplay as you will colonize and found cities to grow your new population. But this time, the randomized surroundings will dictate to you how you need to adapt in order to survive.
Though they are keeping visuals, gameplay, and more specific information under wraps, from what we have been told about Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth, there is a lot to look forward to and get excited about. This could very well be the biggest evolution the series has ever seen and we are eager to see more. Perhaps E3 2014 will give us more details. For now, the game is set to release in the Fall of 2014.
