Sony E3 2013 Press Briefing

The Sony Press Conference is here and despite starting late, we have finally begun Here, we will see the future of the PlayStation platform with all the juicy details on the PS4 and learn about PS3 plans for the fall and what Sony plans to do with the Vita.

Jack Tretton, the President and CEO of Sony of America, is on the stage. Tretton will tell us why the PS4 is the most advanced system in the market today. Today they are starting over the PS Vita. The Walking Dead, 400 Days DLC and first season, will be coming to the Vita in August.

Remote play will be available only over WiFi with the PS4.

Moving on to PlayStation 3, The Last of Us is on its way to eager gamers. Another title, the Puppeteer is also coming from their Japanese studio. Rain, another Japanese studio game, is coming. It looks like an adventure game of sorts. Beyond Two Souls is another title coming to the platform this fall. Grand Turismo 6 is also making its way on the PlayStation 3.

Batman Arkham Origins is making its way from Warner Bros. The PS3 will get two exclusive skins for the title. For GTA V, there will be a special $299 bundle that comes with a themed headset, the game, and PS3 console.

I would be happy to have some of these games as PS4 launch titles and the PS3 gets them this fall. This is the seventh year of the PlayStation 3.

Andrew House, President and Group CEO of SCEA is on stage now to talk PS4. He is showing off the PS4 for the first time. It is the opposite of what Microsoft created. It looks very reminiscent of the PS2. It also is much thinner than Microsoft’s console. I don’t love it but I don’t ‘hate it either.

Michael Lynton, CEO of Sony Entertainment Chairmen. Sony Pictures will have exclusive content available on their platform via their large library of content available to them. This will be picked and made for gamers.

Redbox Instant by Verizon is coming to PS4, Vita, and PS3. Live Events Viewer is coming to bring Live Events and Events on Demand.  Flixster is also coming to the PlayStation Network.

Shu Yoshida, President Worldwide Studios SCE is on the stage. There are over 30 titles in development at Worldwide Studios. 20 of these titles will release in the first year of the PS4 life. 12 of these are new IP.

The Order 1886 is the first title coming developed by Ready at Dawn Studios.

Killzone Shadow Fall is shown next. DriveClub is shown off after that. Then Infamous Second Son. Finally Knack is shown off from their Japanese studio. Killzone and DriveClub will be launch titles and Infamous Second Son will be a Q1 2014 release.
Adam Boyes, VP of Third Party Relations, is on the stage. Super Giant Games is bringing their creative genius to the PS4. From the creators of Bastion, comes a brand new title called Transistor. It is coming first to PS4 in 2014.

Boyes promises that Sony is building the best catalog of indie games and be the most open and inclusive platform and give gamers the best titles in the world on their platforms.

Some of these titles include
Don’t Starve
Mercenary Kings
Octodad Dadliest Catch
Secret Ponchos
Ray’s The Dead
Outlast
New ‘n Tasty: Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee
Galak-Z The Dimensional

This is a nice list of titles that show you Sony is backing up what they are saying on indie titles. All of these titles will make their exclusive console debut on PS4.

Square-Enix is up next with a video message from the Director of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. It really is a real game but no details on when it might come out. Square-Enix has one other teaser for us. Kingdom Hearts III. It will be coming to PlayStation 4 along with Final Fantasy XV. Final Fantasy XIV will be coming to both PS3 and PS4.

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag is up next. The first ever live demo is being shown and it is not without its technical details. The demo kept freezing up for a few seconds.

Watch Dogs is the next title that is going to be there at launch for the PlayStation 4. PlayStation owners will get an additional hour of game content for Watch Dogs and an exclusive outfit.

The next title is The Elder Scrolls Online. It is coming to the PlayStation 4 in Spring 2014! There will also be a beta available on PlayStation 4.

Mad Max is coming to the PlayStation 4. This is coming from Warner Bros Interactive and Avalanche Studios.

Jack Tretton is back on stage. There will be over 40

PlayStation 4 Supports used games. It won’t restrict the games in any way. This crowd is going absolutely nuts. But the list of jabs at Microsoft continues:
Lend it to a friend
keep it forever
sell it to another person
trade in games at retail
This is for all Disc based games
You don’t need to be connected to play disc based games.
Won’t require you to check in online for disc based games. It won’t stop working if you haven’t authenticated within 24 hours.

Sony is also looking at expanding the benefits of the PlayStation Plus. This will carry over to PS4 so you can use your existing PS Plus Membership for one price.

Multiplayer games will require Plus on PlayStation 4. All video content and services will be free.

PS4 owners with PS Plus will get DriveClub PS Plus Edition free for the first year.

Don’t Starve, Outlast, and Secret Ponchos games will be free in the first three months of the PlayStation 4 release.

The world gameplay premiere of Destiny is now up. Destiny is coming in 2014 and Sony and Activision/Bungie have a new “relationship.” No other details were given.

The US will get PlayStation Cloud on PlayStation 3 and 4 and then followed by Vita. This will be coming in 2014. This will ultimately give users access to all games ever made on the PlayStation platform.

PlayStation 4 will be available for $399 this holiday season. Is PlayStation the best place to play? Without a doubt says Sony! They say they have the games, the entertainment, the value, and the trust to be the best platform in this industry. The show is now over.
